The Face Plan: By The Decades
As a plan of action for aging gracefully, Dr. Choucair developedThe Face Plan a comprehensive and completely customizable treatment plan based on each patient’s unique needs and desires as they relate to turning back the clock. Incorporating all possible options in facial rejuvenation, including both invasive and non-invasive methods, here is a peek inside potential plan options that span the decades—from your post-college 20s to your mid-life moments and golden years.
20s: It might be true what they say, “Youth is wasted on the young.” During these years, it’s hard to imagine our skin aging dramatically beyond what we see in the mirror, so it’s very important to implement a regime of protecting and preserving. Regular facials, committing to a daily skin care program and perpetual use of sunscreen is key to maintaining resilience and radiance. Surgically speaking your skin has a lot of elasticity, so it’s a good time to take the plunge if you’re considering cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation or rhinoplasty. During these years one can also repair or “undo” imperfections from early childhood sun damage or acne scarring with non-surgical based therapies.
30s: Regular maintenance and moderate repair is the focus now. Medical facials that include microdermabrasion, light chemical peels and photofacials will help erase fine lines and maintain skin tone, while those experiencing the onset of wrinkles might begin testing the waters with fillers like Restylane® or Botox®. If you’re considering a post-baby breast lift or liposuction, this is the decade to do so since your skin still has adequate elasticity. If you are considering a post-baby breast lift or lipo, this is the decade to do so.
40s: For most of us, this is the time when the reality of aging starts to set in. To combat this process, you should focus on reversing the signs of aging and wear and tear on the body. Fraxel®, a laser therapy treatment that works below the surface is a great non-surgical therapy to “iron out” wrinkles and fine lines. Additionally, chemical peels can remedy fine lines and uneven skin tone, and fillers will help maintain the natural contour of your face. Since the area around the eye tends to age during this decade, you might be a good candidate for a blepharoplasty-modification, commonly known as an “eye lift”. Other surgical solutions may include a breast lift or liposuction for persistent fat pockets, or even a mini or full tummy tuck.
50s: During this time, age spots may begin to appear and elasticity in the skin is diminished with an overall “thinning” of the skin. Careful, continued use of fillers—avoid an overblown look—will combat a “hollowed-out” appearance and photofacial treatments are a wonderful way to erase age spots. Facelift surgery, eye-lift, tummy tucks and breast lifts or reductions are commonly performed in the 50 to 60 year age group.
60s and beyond: By this time, not only are you comfortable in your own skin, but you’re armed with knowledge and a plan for how to repair the things you want and live with the things that represent your life’s journey. You may be considering a facelift or maintaining a “lift” from an earlier operation. An overall “slackening” or “loosening” of the skin is the most common complaint as we age and patients are considering more surgical options to reduce areas with excess skin, such as, an arm lift, tummy tuck, or overall body contouring.
No matter what your current age is Dr. Choucair can provide a step-by-step guide and recommendation for maximum impact in the war against facial aging.
